The City of Dallas announced on June 3 that it will hold the Pride in Excellence Awards Reception and Art Exhibition to celebrate Pride Month. The event will recognize LGBTQ+ leaders in Dallas across business, community impact, public service, arts and culture, and philanthropy. Artists featured in the Pride Month Exhibition will also be acknowledged during the reception.
According to the announcement, “The Pride Month Exhibition celebrates the vitality, resilience, legacy, and cultural richness of the LGBTQ+ community through the work of artists based in Dallas.” The exhibition brings together diverse voices reflecting themes such as identity, love, visibility, community, self-expression, equity, and belonging. It aims to honor stories and contributions from members of the LGBTQ+ community while highlighting contemporary experiences and inspiring activism, connection, and cultural celebration.
Scheduled participants include Chad West (Council Member for District 1), Laura Cadena (Council Member for District 6), Liz Cedillo-Pereira (Deputy City Manager), Ahmad Goree (Chief of Staff to the City Manager), members of the LGBT Task Force, and City Employees for Pride.
The event is set for Thursday, June 4 at noon in the lobby of Dallas City Hall at 1500 Marilla Street. The city encourages participation from residents interested in celebrating local LGBTQ+ achievements.
