The Dallas Police Department announced the arrest of 33-year-old Jose Marquina-Bonilla, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, on August 3, 2025 on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.
According to WFAA, Marquina-Bonilla was taken into custody by the Dallas Police Department for continuous sexual abuse of a young child and his status as an undocumented immigrant. The victim, who is under 14 years old, reported that assaults occurred weekly from November 2024 to May 2025, leading to a pregnancy discovered at a hospital. Marquina-Bonilla has prior deportations in 2016 and 2023 and is currently held without bond at North Tower Detention Facility.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that sexual abuse accounted for between 10.9% and 13.3% of child maltreatment cases in Texas across recent reporting periods. These figures are derived from child protective services investigations within the state.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that at least one in four girls and one in twenty boys in the United States experience child sexual abuse. Approximately 90% of such abuse is perpetrated by someone known to the child or family. In 2015, the lifetime economic burden of this issue was estimated at $9.3 billion.
