Dallas Fire-Rescue announced on April 20 the one-year anniversary of its “Seniors On The Move” fitness initiative, which has engaged nearly 300 seniors in physical activity and public safety education since its launch in April 2025. A celebration event is scheduled for April 21 at Samuel Grand Recreation Center, where Chief Justin Ball, Assistant Chiefs, and the community outreach team will join participants for a workout session.
The program was developed to help older adults improve their health while also connecting them with important safety information and community resources. By reaching hundreds of residents across various recreation centers, Dallas Fire-Rescue aims to foster both wellness and a sense of connection among local seniors.
Long-time community leader Cedric Bailey designed the free workouts specifically for Dallas’s senior population. As interest grew, “Seniors On The Move” expanded into a traveling resource that brings not only exercise but also fire safety education and access to vendors offering services tailored to older adults.
Captain Andrea Shaffner said, “The feedback was so overwhelming that we knew we couldn’t stop at just one location. We saw a genuine need for a program that combined much-needed access to community resources with physical activity and fun.”
By integrating fitness activities with public safety outreach, Dallas Fire-Rescue continues its focus on supporting senior residents throughout the city. As the initiative enters its second year, organizers plan to keep delivering energy, music, health information, education opportunities, and additional resources at recreation centers across Dallas.
