Dallas Fire-Rescue announced on April 20 the first anniversary of its community fitness initiative, “Seniors on the Move,” which has helped nearly 300 older adults in Dallas focus on physical well-being since its launch in April 2025.

The program aims to encourage seniors to stay active and connected while also providing important safety information. It has become a regular resource at recreation centers throughout the city, offering both exercise and access to community support services.

A celebration event is scheduled for April 21 at Samuel Grand Recreation Center. Dallas Fire Chief Justin Ball, deputy chiefs, and members of the community outreach team are expected to attend. The event will feature an exercise session led by local community leader Cedric Bailey, who designed a free routine specifically for seniors.

Captain Andrea Shaffner said, “The feedback was so positive that we realized we couldn’t limit it to just one location. We saw a real need for a program that combined access to community resources with physical activity and fun.”

In addition to promoting health, “Seniors on the Move” offers participants fire prevention tips and direct connections with service providers tailored for older adults. As it enters its second year, Dallas Fire-Rescue says it remains committed to bringing energy, music, health education, and resources into recreation centers across Dallas.
