The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose Velasquez on a sexual assault charge and an immigration hold, according to jail records.
Velasquez was booked into the North Tower facility on March 18, with a bond set at $50,000 for the sexual assault charge.
Dallas County has recorded an increase in immigration detainers issued by federal authorities. Between February and May 2025, ICE issued a total of 1,706 detainers in Dallas County, a 71% increase from the previous year. The county jail holds individuals with active immigration holds as part of ongoing enforcement efforts, according to reporting by the Dallas Observer.
Texas Department of Public Safety data show over 335,000 noncitizens have been charged with more than 599,000 criminal offenses in the state between June 2011 and April 2026. Among those, there were 7,656 sexual assault charges and 8,678 sexual offense charges.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Marian Brown, is the chief law enforcement agency in the county. Established on March 30, 1846, it operates the seventh-largest jail in the United States with an average population of over 6,000 inmates and more than 2,000 employees, according to its website.
