The Dallas City Council approved on April 23 a resolution to submit an application for a $3 million grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The funding would support the next phase of growth for the Fair Park Community Park, including expanding the park and adding new improvements.
The initiative is intended to enhance recreational opportunities and provide a more welcoming space for both neighborhood residents and visitors across Dallas.
“We are excited about the opportunity to receive this grant,” said City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. “With these funds, we will be able to improve the park experience and create an even more welcoming and dynamic space for the Fair Park neighborhood and visitors from across the city.”
According to city officials, last year’s approval of Senate Bill 1 identified Dallas as a recipient of funds designated specifically for Fair Park Community Park. Once the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department receives all required documents from Dallas, it will issue an agreement that must be signed by city representatives. Upon final authorization, officials say, funds will be officially awarded so that planned improvements can begin.
Broader implications of this project include increased access to green spaces in urban areas as well as potential economic benefits through increased visitation. The city expects that with these upgrades, Fair Park Community Park will better serve local needs while attracting more people from throughout Dallas.
