Dallas Animal Services announced on May 26 the launch of First Fridays, a new monthly event series aimed at connecting the community with pets in need of homes. The initiative is supported by a donation from the Louis B. and Mary Ratliff Animal Welfare Fund of The Dallas Foundation to Friends of Dallas Animal Services, which provides financial support for the shelter.

The first First Fridays event will take place during the Paws and Play Summer launch weekend, a three-day celebration from June 5 to 7 designed to encourage more residents to visit the shelter and learn about available services and programs. The inaugural event is scheduled for June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring live music by Nova Pangea, snacks, interactive activities, and opportunities for attendees to meet adoptable pets.

“Siempre buscamos nuevas formas de ayudar a las mascotas a conectar con potenciales familias adoptivas,” dijo Wendy Reiner, cofundadora de Friends of Dallas Animal Services. “First Fridays permite a la comunidad visitar el refugio fuera del horario de oficina, para pasar tiempo con nuestros animales y da la esperanza de encontrar a su nuevo mejor amigo.”

The monthly series is part of ongoing efforts in Dallas to encourage community involvement through adoptions, fostering, and volunteering. Residents are invited to participate with friends and family as well as help provide second chances for animals currently in the shelter.

Dallas Animal Services operates as one of the largest municipal animal shelters in the country and is committed to promoting public safety while finding positive outcomes for all healthy and treatable animals under its care. Through collaboration with the community, DAS works toward saving lives via adoption programs, temporary care initiatives, and public engagement.
