Dallas Animal Services announced on May 15 several updates and upcoming events for volunteers, including the resolution of administrative issues with the Better Impact system. The organization thanked volunteers for their patience and encouraged anyone experiencing further difficulties to contact the volunteer team for assistance.
The newsletter highlights ongoing programs such as the Staff and Volunteer Favorites Board, which allows volunteers to nominate shelter pets as favorites. Volunteers are invited to submit information about their favorite animals, and those whose nominated pets are adopted or fostered will be eligible for a monthly incentive.
Several upcoming events were outlined in the announcement. The Summer Kickoff event is scheduled from June 5 through June 7, featuring extended adoption hours on June 5. Dallas Animal Services is seeking multiple volunteers each day to assist with meet-and-greets, adoption support, and enrichment sessions with students from Dallas Independent School District who will be volunteering to earn graduation service hours. Volunteers interested in participating can sign up through My Impact.
Operation Pit Stop will take place from May 29 through June 1 at 3200 Keller Springs Road in Carrollton, Texas. Sponsored by Wings of Rescue in partnership with Helping Paws Across Borders and other community organizations, this event aims to complete between 500 and 1,000 spay and neuter surgeries. Several local animal welfare groups have been asked to provide volunteer support for this large-scale project.
Other volunteer roles mentioned include Meet & Greet Assistants—who help introduce dogs to potential adopters—and Lobby Ambassadors who promote adoptable pets within the shelter lobby. Data entry assistance is also needed by both the Foster to Adopt Coordinator and Pet Support Team.
The newsletter includes a reminder from Director Paul that all staff, volunteers, and visitors should avoid parking at neighboring gas stations due to towing risks; parking should only occur on Dallas Animal Services property.
A Volunteer Town Hall is scheduled for May 27 at 6 p.m., where upcoming events will be discussed via an online meeting platform. This month’s Volunteer Shout Out recognizes Erin Neves for her dedication since joining just over a month ago: “My time with DAS has been healing and deeply meaningful… I look forward to it each week!” Neves also shared stories about her experience volunteering alongside dedicated staff members and partners within America’s third-largest intake shelter.
