Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, representing Texas’ 30th district since 2023, has been vocal about her concerns regarding the focus of certain congressional discussions. In a series of tweets, she highlighted issues she perceives as distractions from more pressing matters facing the nation.
On May 7, 2025, Crockett expressed frustration during a subcommittee meeting on waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government. She questioned why the discussion shifted to trans people instead of focusing on the intended topics. “We’re supposed to be in this DOGE Subcommittee to talk about waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal government, right? Soooo why are we in here talking about trans people? Last time I checked, trans people aren’t the ones ruining our country — it’s TRUMP and his little”, she stated.
In another tweet dated May 8, 2025, Crockett criticized a congressional hearing focused on fencing as opposed to addressing critical issues such as children at risk of losing Medicaid. She argued that Republicans were diverting attention from significant problems. “Instead of talking about the REAL issues—like the fact that millions of children are at risk of losing Medicaid—we had a hearing about fencing today… yes, the sport. Republicans are wasting valuable time and taxpayer dollars on distractions instead of solutions.”
Later that day, Crockett took issue with Congress spending time voting on renaming the Gulf of Mexico—a name that has existed for nearly five centuries—while urgent matters like healthcare access and education funding remain unresolved. “Today, we wasted time voting on renaming the Gulf of Mexico—a name it’s had for almost 500 YEARS. We’ve got folks losing healthcare, schools underfunded, and rights under attack.”
Jasmine Crockett is currently serving in U.S Congress after replacing Eddie Bernice Johnson in 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress starting in 2023 representing Texas’s 30th District; she served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2021 to 2023.
