Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, representing Texas’ 30th district since 2023, has been vocal on social media regarding recent political actions. On May 5, 2025, she criticized a proposal from former President Donald Trump concerning immigration policy.
In a tweet posted on May 5, Crockett expressed her disapproval of Trump’s proposal to offer immigrants $1,000 to leave the country. She stated: “Immigration policy or bribery? Trump wants to PAY immigrants $1,000 to leave. This ain’t policy — it’s a payoff. And guess what? Our taxpayer dollars are funding it.”
The following day, on May 6, Crockett continued her critique by emphasizing the negative economic implications of such policies. She tweeted: “Bribing immigrants with $1000 to leave the country and garnishing wages while ruining the economy is not leadership — it’s a damn scam.”
On the same day, she highlighted efforts within Congress against perceived injustices by the current administration. She mentioned collective action taken by herself and colleagues from The Black Caucus in response to policies affecting Black communities. Her statement read: “Last night my @TheBlackCaucus colleagues and I took to the House floor to speak the truth: in just 100 days, this administration has launched a full-blown attack on Black futures, Black prosperity, and Black freedom. We will resist. We will organize. We will keep speaking truth.”
Crockett was born in St Louis, Missouri in 1981 and resides in Dallas. She graduated from Rhodes College with a BA in 2003 and earned her JD from the University of Houston in 2006.
