The City of Dallas announced on May 27 that it will raise the rainbow Pride flag over city buildings in honor of Pride Month. The official flag-raising ceremony and a Resource Fair are scheduled to take place at Dallas City Hall Plaza on Friday, May 29, at 5:00 p.m.
According to the announcement, the event will kick off a series of activities recognizing Pride Month throughout June. In addition to flying the Pride flag above city buildings, city partners will illuminate the downtown skyline with multi-colored lights starting May 29.
Participants in the ceremony include Council Member Chad West from District 1, Council Member Laura Cadena from District 6, representatives from City of Dallas LGBT Employees for Pride of Dallas, the Dallas Police Department, as well as organizations such as Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Wings, Texas Latino Pride, Abounding Prosperity, LGBT Task Force and MMIW TX Rematriate.
The event is set for Dallas City Hall Plaza at 1500 Marilla St., with a contingency plan to move indoors to the Flag Room located at City Hall if there is inclement weather.
The city’s observance aims to recognize and support its LGBTQ+ community through public displays and community engagement during Pride Month.
