SMU women’s golf team held ninth place at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational on March 23, with Chen and Odwin both sitting inside the top 20. The event took place in Fort Worth, Texas, featuring a competitive field of twelve out of thirteen teams ranked in the national top fifty, including six of the top nine.
The Mustangs began the day with a score of sixteen-over par in round one, which placed them tenth at the halfway mark. They improved to ten-over par in round two, moving up to ninth overall. SMU finished ahead of three ranked teams: No. 6 Auburn, No. 22 Arizona, and No. 41 TCU.
Chen and Odwin led their team with five-over-par scores after carding rounds of seventy-three and seventy-two respectively. Notably, Chen played seventeen consecutive holes without a bogey across both rounds. Odwin will be seeking her eighteenth career top-20 finish on Tuesday while Chen aims for her eighth.
Two other Mustangs are tied at eight-over par in forty-sixth place after each tallied three birdies during Monday’s play. Another teammate sits at ten-over par in fifty-ninth position.
An individual competitor from SMU is currently thirty-fourth after posting rounds of seventy-three and seventy-four as she looks for her best finish this season.
The final round will begin Tuesday morning at Colonial Country Club where SMU golfers will be paired with competitors from Mississippi State and Oklahoma State.
