The Bath House Cultural Center announced on April 30 that it will present ‘Big Luck,’ a mixed media exhibition as part of the third annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Festival and the center’s Dragon Boat Festival. The exhibition will be on display from May 2 to May 30, and admission is free and open to the public.
This event highlights the contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander artists in the arts community. The show features eleven artists from areas including Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Seattle. According to curator Mylan Nguyen, who is also an exhibiting artist, she has connected with many of these participants over the years through art school, exhibitions, and sales events. Nguyen said this sense of connection inspired both her selection of works for ‘Big Luck’ and its title.
“The title also reflects my gratitude for the relationships I have built with these artists and their work,” Nguyen said. She added that her selection emphasizes skill, dedication, experimentation, and diverse ideas expressed through various media. Participating artists include Julian Callos, Eun Jee Chong, Lucy Haigan, Eun Lee, Chi Leong, Joanna Lin, Lo, Annie Nguyen, Mylan Nguyen herself, Brent Ozaeta and Taro Waggoner.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on how artists balance parallel pursuits in their practice and how each influences the other—a dynamic that mirrors navigating multiple facets of identity in a multicultural context.
The Bath House Cultural Center is located at 521 E. Lawther Dr., Dallas. More information about programs can be found at bathhouse.dallasculture.org. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; extended hours until 10 p.m. are available during theater performances.
